Co-Active Leadership - Five Ways to Lead

Five Ways to Lead is based on the simple idea that anyone can be a leader, regardless of role or title, by choosing one of five different ways to lead. It is a multi-dimensional model for every leadership style. Leaders are those who take responsibility for their world. In Co-Active Leadership, responsibility has two important aspects:

  • Being able to respond by being aware of what is needed in the moment and responding with intention.

  • Taking responsibility as a co-creator of your own life story.

The power of intention

At the heart of authentic power lies intention. What truly matters to you? What do you want to create in your life?

Your intention shapes the energy behind every action. That’s why it’s essential to become clear about your intention—especially in practices like coaching and meditation. Honesty with yourself is key.

Before setting an intention, take a moment to connect with what you genuinely desire. Be specific: What outcome do you hope for? What impact do you want to have?

​INTENTION: What is the most important thing that needs to happen?

​​

RESULT: What do you want as a result? This is something measurable, so write it down as specifically as possible.

​​

IMPACT: This is about the feelings you want to evoke in yourself or others.​​​

Attention and Focus

'Energy flows where attention goes.'

​

Can you give your full attention to the goal you've set? Or to the task at hand?
Or is your mind restless, easily distracted by noise and thoughts?

​

Our natural state is one of calm awareness—inner peace and focused presence. When we create from this stillness, our choices are different. They bring clarity, foster connection, and serve something greater than ourselves.

​

Meditation is a powerful way to return to this state. But nature, movement, or even moments of deep stillness in daily life can awaken it too.

Inner and Outer Purpose

Pursuing goals and being satisfied, is that possible at the same time? You wonder what a meaningful life is. You want to feel a little calmer and experience less stress.

Are you busy achieving external goals, such as finding a new job or a different house. Where am I going, what should I do, in which direction is my life going? I want to achieve something. These things are important. But everything seems to be focused on "doing" and satisfaction often lies in the future.

Have you noticed that when you achieve a goal, the moment of happiness is often short-lived and that you often quickly look for a new goal in the future?
